Fixed Pitch
Our two-cyle engine has a large margin of power above the demand curve to provide high and instant acceleration. When compared to a four-cycle engine, the power supplied in fixed wing applications can barely meet the demand curve.
Controllable Pitch
Thanks to the additional power capacity of our two-cycle engine, it adapts to almost any pitch change without overloading. Four-cycle engine manufacturers limit the power provided by the engine to protect it from overloading.
Pump Applications
The cost of our two-cycle engine is low thanks to its single drive gear. A four-cycle engine, on the other hand, is limited to operate in a very narrow power range and is high in fuel consumption.
Responsiveness
Our two-cycle 710 engine is the fastest accelerating engine in the world. In tests with generators, our 5,000 horsepower 20-cylinder engine can reach full load in a single step and in a short time. When similar tests were done in marine applications, it showed acceleration from idle to full load in less than 11 seconds. Our two-cycle 710 engine fires each cylinder once per revolution with its unique turbo design that utilizes efficient combustion air. Our 710 engine can be loaded without problems at a rate incomparable to a medium speed engine.
Emissions
The EMD® E 23 B 710 Series engine is US EPA Tier IV Final Certified and IMO III certified. The Tier IV E 23 B is the only integrated solution in the industry.
Our US EPA Tier III engines are suitable for ships to be refurbished. IMO II engines are still produced today. Our two-cycle engine complies with new emissions regulations while maintaining its advantages in efficiency and running costs.
